Student Ambassador Information
The Student Ambassador position will be a vital member of our team, playing a key role in our Marketing and Communications, Programming and Advising, Workshops and Education, and Spiritual & Interfaith Units. This position offers hands-on experience in:
- program/event coordination, implementation, and evaluation engaging in intercultural engagement opportunities
- development and implementation of marketing management for email, social media, and other outreach methods
- effective workshop facilitation through active listening, ability to manage group dynamics, and assess the impact of workshops.
- community engagement, spiritual and interfaith support, program planning and facilitation, front-desk operations, and fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive campus environment
A core focus of this position includes building and strengthening relationships with the student population we serve.
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student in one of George GMU University’s undergraduate or graduate programs
- Must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA
- Must be able to work 10-12 hours a week
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills (written, and verbal, and nonverbal)
- Experience or interest working with peers in a human-centered environment
- Must take initiative and think creatively and intentionally about meeting the needs of the GMU community
- Ability to practice empathy with people from a wide range of backgrounds
- Must be reliable, responsible, and self-motivated
- Demonstrate proficiency in e-mail management, database, and publishing software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive).
- Must be available and accessible for the time commitment involved
All Ambassadors are generally responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Support the daily operations and administrative functions of the office.
- Represent the office at outreach events, information tables, and kiosks, providing accurate information about programs, services, and resources.
- Staff the Spiritual and Interfaith (S&I) Center front desk by welcoming patrons, answering questions, supporting center operations, maintaining and assessing utilization data, and helping community members navigate the S&I Center and its resources.
- Assist with the planning, setup, implementation, and breakdown of CLIE programs, events, and initiatives. See Time Commitments section for more information.
- Participate in regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with the assigned Graduate Professional Assistant (GPA) supervisor.
- Attend and actively contribute/participate in recurring CLIE Unit Meetings. See Time Commitments section for more information.
- Attend and actively contribute/participate in recurring CLIE All-Staff Meetings. See Time Commitments section for more information.
- Attend and actively contribute/participate in CLIE Staff Training and Retreats. See Time Commitments section for more information.

As an ambassador you will be in one of the following units that carry additional responsibilities: Marketing & Communications, OR Programming & Advising, OR Workshops & Education, OR Spiritual & Interfaith Center.
Under the Marketing and Communications unit, we use storytelling, visual media, and strategic communications to amplify the experiences, identities, and voices that shape our campus community. The team develops graphics, digital campaigns, multimedia content, and narrative-driven communications that highlight the rich cultures, leadership, and lived experiences of Mason students while promoting CLIE programs, initiatives, and opportunities. Through social media, print materials, newsletters, photography, video, and other creative platforms, the team helps cultivate belonging by illustrating how students engage across difference, build community, and contribute to a more connected campus. We aim not only to increase awareness and engagement with CLIE, but also to foster a campus culture where students feel seen, valued, and empowered to share their stories.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Develop and create graphics, digital marketing campaigns, and visual storytelling content to promote CLIE programs and initiatives across multiple communication platforms, including social media, newsletters, digital displays, and other campus marketing channels.
- Assist with the management of CLIE social media and communication platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Mason360, and other digital outreach channels.
- Support timely, engaging, and strategic communication efforts by creating content, publishing posts, monitoring engagement, tracking performance metrics, and providing insights on trends and audience engagement.
- Research, develop, and implement content ideas informed by current trends and active engagement with CLIE programs, workshops, student organizations, and campus communities.
- Create relevant and impactful communications that highlight the diverse cultures, experiences, leadership, and perspectives of Mason students.
- Capture and share student experiences, community stories, and campus engagement opportunities through visual and written content that fosters belonging and enhances student life at Mason.
- Collaborate with the Graduate Professional Assistant (GPA) to maintain communication listservs and support marketing and promotional requests related to social media, newsletters, and other communication initiatives.
- Capture and produce multimedia content for events and programs hosted by CLIE and its affiliated units including: photography, videography, and short-form video content.
- Collaborate with team members to conceptualize, film, edit, and produce community-centered video content for the Global Roots Monthly Series, for the Alternative Spring Break in Atlanta trip, and the Building Bridges in South Africa experiential education trip.
- Develop compelling visual stories that highlight the diverse voices, experiences, cultures, and perspectives of GMU students while promoting engagement, belonging, and cross-cultural understanding across the campus community.
- Review and monitor project management platforms, including Asana, and contribute to the execution of the Weekly Social Media Plan to ensure assigned tasks and deliverables are completed in a timely and collaborative manner.

Under the Programming & Advising unit, we work to create, plan, and execute student-focused programs and initiatives that have a specific charge towards narrative change and the academic, identity, social, and cultural development of students at various social locations. Events may include but are not limited to cultural exchange programs, dialogue spaces, collaboration with other GMU departments and units. For culturally-driven Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), we offer tailored guidance to address the unique challenges student leaders face. Our approach emphasizes practical skills, effective collaboration, and leadership development, equipping students with the tools and confidence to excel in their roles and build connections with other students on campus.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Serve as active facilitators and hosts during programs by helping lead activities, guide participant engagement, foster welcoming environments, and support meaningful dialogue and community-building.
- Idea generation: Engage in active listening to uplift themes and ideas that matter most to our communities.
- Create project timelines, delegate team responsibilities, manage logistics, and build the infrastructure needed to bring programs and initiatives to life.
- Support implementation through room set-ups, food orders, speaker coordination, marketing, registration tracking, script writing, tech support, and on-the-ground event management and presence.
- Collect feedback through post-event surveys, team debriefs, and informal conversations to strengthen future programming and better respond to student needs.
- Provide advising support to culturally-driven RSOs through helping with marketing, funding requests, venue reservations, event staffing, and programming timelines.

Under the Workshops & Education unit, we offer dynamic educational workshops designed to foster spaces of belonging where all individuals are valued, respected, and empowered to lead. Workshops can be requested for student groups, organizations, or departments, and the Workshops & Education team, comprised of both professional staff and trained student leaders, is available to facilitate engaging, tailored experiences to meet these needs. Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Co-facilitate workshops by actively preparing, practicing, and collaborating with the team to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences
- Collect and analyze data from post-workshop evaluations to improve workshop effectiveness and facilitation practices
- Create and propose new workshops, activities, and educational experiences responsive to student interests and campus needs
- Reach out to student organizations to collaborate for public workshops.
- Plan, facilitate, and assess our local, domestic, and global experiential education opportunities (Alternative Spring Break Trip to Atlanta, Building Bridges South Africa – Summer).

The Spiritual and Interfaith Center at George Mason offers a tranquil environment for reflection, meditation, prayer, and connection. Open to all students, faculty, and staff regardless of spiritual or cultural background, this center is meant to serve as an on-campus sanctuary for personal growth and interfaith dialogue. Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
- Assist in creating a safe, welcoming and supportive space for GMU community members.
- Support the spiritual, religious, ethical, and philosophical communities accessing the Center by learning center resources, protocols, spaces, and community expectations to effectively assist visitors and guests.
- Serve as active facilitators, hosts, and ambassadors during programs by helping lead activities, guide participant engagement, foster welcoming environments, and support meaningful dialogue and community-building.
- Monitor the Center to help maintain the comfort, accessibility, respect, and safety of all users while responding appropriately to concerns and following established center procedures.
- Collaboratively develop, plan, and implement programs, dialogues, and initiatives that promote spiritual exploration, multifaith engagement, religious literacy, and education around spiritual and ethical issues in society and the world.

The Student Ambassador position is designed for the following work commitment:
- Academic Term (August 10, 2026 - May 14, 2027)
- 10 to 12 hours per week.
- Occasional evening, weekend, and extended hours may be required. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.
Required Training & Development
Ambassadors must participate in:
- Ambassador Staff Training: August 10-14, 2026
- Staff Preparation & Continued Training: August 17-21, 2026
- Ongoing staff meetings, one-on-one supervision meetings, professional development sessions, and staff retreats throughout the academic year.
- Meeting schedules, training dates, and retreat dates will be communicated as soon as they are finalized.
Events & Initiatives Expectations
Ambassadors are expected to:
Dates for events are still to be determined, we will announce dates/times as soon as possible. Sign-ups for events will occur in the early weeks of each semester.
- WORK 3 CLIE-sponsored events each semester (one from each CLIE functional area)
- ATTEND 3 CLIE-sponsored events each semester (one from each CLIE functional area)
- Support 2 cultural coalition signature events during the spring semester
- WORK Fall or Spring S&I Center’s Faith & Forks event
- Support key CLIE initiatives, including Faith & Forks, Anti-Hate programming, and Cultural Celebration (graduating seniors are exempt from working Cultural Celebration)
Academic Breaks & University Closures
Some responsibilities may occur during periods when the university is open but classes are not in session (e.g., fall break, winter break, spring break, and semester preparation periods). Expectations will be communicated in advance and coordinated with supervisors.
All required meetings, trainings, and regularly scheduled staff commitments count toward the weekly 10–12 hours work expectation unless otherwise noted.
The Student Ambassador position pays an hourly rate of $14.00. This Student Ambassador position is a 9.5-month contract (August 10, 2026 - May 14, 2027), with the possibility of returning for the following academic year.
