We offer a variety of engaging Peer-to-Peer Workshops, facilitated by our Student Leadership Consultants, as well as expert-led workshops from our professional staff. Whether you prefer in-person or virtual sessions, we have options to suit your needs. Please be sure to select the appropriate request form based on your preferred format, keeping in mind that each group must be either fully in-person or fully virtual for an optimal experience. Our workshops are available to currently enrolled Mason students, faculty, staff, or alumni, ensuring a relevant and valuable learning opportunity for the George Mason community.
Important Information
- A minimum of 10 participants is required to host a workshop
- For student organizations or residence halls, we ask that you provide pre-registration. Please submit the list of registered attendees the business day before the event.
- Please submit your request at least 2 weeks in advance of your preferred date. Due to limited staffing, we may not be able to accommodate requests made with less than a two-week lead time.

- Everyday Leadership (1 hour) – will be available in early October
- Attend this fun and interactive workshop to explore the complex topic of leadership. Who do you consider a leader? Does the term “leader” apply only to those in positions of power, or others as well? What characteristics are people looking for in their leaders? Where do you stand on some leadership topics: Are there “born leaders”? Do you need charisma to be a good leader? We will explore how leadership relates to you and your life today. Students will have a chance to watch a short Ted Talk (Everyday Leadership with Drew Dudley) and participate in an engaging and interactive workshop experience focused around “everyday leadership moments.” Students will have a chance to discover their own “lollipop moments” of leadership.
- Ice Breakers, Energizers, and Team Building (30 mins to 1 hour)
- Allows individuals, teams, and groups to get to know one another while participating in engaging and interactive activities
- Leadership Values (1 hour)
- Allows for students to identify their personal ethical values, the ethical values of their teammates, and how they connect to their leadership style and presence.
- Goal Setting and Vision Development (1 hour)
- Facilitates the process of envisioning future possibilities, discovering commitment and passion, and understanding the big picture

- Provides a model for understanding yourself based on your personality temperament. Students will have a chance to engage and interact with one another and learn more about the following:

- Bridging Differences: Increasing Understanding (1.5 to 2 hours)
- Interested in learning from someone with a very different perspective? Tired of unnecessary polarization & animosity? Let’s do something about it! Leadership researchers have found that conversations across difference are one of the best ways for students to develop as leaders. This highly interactive workshop will help participants develop the conversational skills to better understand those with very different viewpoints. There will be opportunities to explore 4 qualities of good questions, as well as how & why we change our minds. Participants will craft a series of engaging questions that they can use in a wide variety of situations. There will also be the opportunity to practice essential conversational skills to increase our understand across difference.
- Positive Conflict Management (1.5 to 2 hours)
- Conflict in groups and organizations is inevitable and can be very positive and productive. This workshop will help participants better understand various approaches to conflict, which approaches they utilize more frequently, and how to use each approach appropriately. We may approach conflict differently, but if we better understand ourselves and others, we can navigate conflict in a more constructive manner. This workshop will equip participants with various approaches to positive conflict management.
- Leadership 101: What is Leadership? (1 to 1.5 hours)
- Attend this fun and interactive workshop to explore the complex topic of leadership. Who do you consider a leader? Does the term “leader” apply only to those in positions of power, or others as well? What characteristics are people looking for in their leaders? Where do you stand on some leadership topics: Are there “born leaders”? Do you need charisma to be a good leader? We will explore how leadership relates to you and your life today.
- StrengthsFinder: Discovering and using your Top 5 (Gallup CliftonStrengths Assessment Instrument) (1 to 2 hours)
- This is the 1st of 2 Strengths workshops that we offer. Attend this highly interactive workshop to learn about your top talents and strengths. You will also learn about the talents/strengths of others and how to have a team that balances different strengths. By attending this session, you will better understand the strengths philosophy, identify and share your talents and strengths, see how your strengths may impact your choices and preferences and the choices and preferences of others, learn new ways to use your strengths in your organization, work, and your life in general.

- Emotionally Intelligent Leadership. More important than IQ? (EQ-i 2.0) (1.5 to 2 hours)
- What are the top qualities that people are looking for in their leaders? What is Emotional Intelligence? Is Emotional Intelligence important in your daily life and also in leadership? Participants will learn practical ways to further develop as leaders in multiple contexts (career, family, community, etc.), whether they have a formal leadership position or not. Participants will also have the opportunity to self-assess on 15 different leadership qualities. Attend this workshop to better understand your own levels of Emotional Intelligence, whether or not they can change and what it means for leadership and teamwork.
- What can TV’s “The Good Place” teach us about Positive Change? (1 to 2 hours)
- Can a TV sitcom help us learn ways to create positive change for ourselves, our groups, and society? NBC’s “The Good Place” is a show in which humans are scored on how ethical they are, in order to determine their place in the afterlife. This workshop will introduce participants to the 5A’s of positive change using engaging and entertaining examples and video clips from “The Good Place.” Are you focusing on all 5A’s of positive change? This session will help participants to better understand the 5A’s of positive change and how they can re-focus our work and our lives.
- What Would You Do? Making Tough, Ethical Choices (1.5 to 2 hours)
- Need to make a difficult decision individually or as a group? What questions do you consider when trying to decide what to do? Consider the following: Would you tell a friend that you discovered that their partner is cheating on them if you are also friends with the person doing the cheating? Would you speak up if you heard someone that you do not know make a racist comment? Would you break a promise to help a friend/colleague if you thought another friend/colleague might need your help even more? How do you decide what’s best? During this interactive workshop you will engage in activities designed to uncover the pros and cons of the ethical approaches you are already using. You will also learn about other helpful approaches. Practical resources for making difficult leadership choices will be provided.
- Bringing Your Purpose to Life: Goal Setting (1 hour)
- What is your purpose? What is most important to you, your group, and society? Attend this interactive workshop to clarify your purpose, develop a vision, and then design SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time Based) that can help you reach your vision.
- Are We Preparing Students to Lead Positive Change? (A workshop designed for educators) (1 to 1.5 hours)
- A global pandemic, corporate scandals, and rampant political and racial polarization have highlighted many examples of unethical leadership. Many of us focus on student success, but does that include preparing students to lead positive change? The need for improved ethics education, for both current and future leaders, is abundantly clear, but the traditional approach to leadership ethics is incomplete. Scientific research from the new field of behavioral ethics can help us better prepare students to lead positive change, regardless of whether they have a leadership position or not. Behavioral ethics, which draws upon psychology, cognitive science, evolutionary biology, sociology, and related fields, can improve ethical decision-making in a manner that can lead to more ethical climates in groups, organizations, and society as a whole. Participants will come away with actionable ideas, and ready to use tools, for infusing behavioral ethics into their work.
- LEGO Leadership (1 to 1.5 hours)
- This workshop provides a fun, interactive, and engaging way to look deeply at the way we communicate, work together in teams, manage conflict, and problem solve… all while using a creative mind approach. Participants will have a chance to work with Lego building blocks to reflect on their personal leadership stories, styles, and approaches, as well as working on team building and engagement. Participants will have an opportunity to play, imagine, create, build, communicate, collaborate, and have fun while engaging in this workshop. Maximum number of participants this workshop can manage: 80
- StrengthsFinder, Part 2: Leading Positive Change (Gallup CliftonStrengths Assessment Instrument) (1.5 to 2 hours)
- This is the 2nd of 2 Strengths workshops that we offer. Participants in this “Part 2” workshop should already be familiar with their Top 5 from Gallup’s CliftonStrengths assessment instrument. This highly interactive workshop is designed to help participants learn more about using their Top 5 with purpose. This workshop takes a values-based approach to strengths. Participants will go through a series of activities and conversations in order to discover how they can help lead positive change with their Top 5.
- Participants will need to complete the CliftonStrengths assessment BEFORE the workshop. It typically takes about 20 minutes to complete.
- Values Based Leadership: Uncovering and clarifying your top values (1 to 1.5 hours)
- Uncover your top values! You will go through an activity to clarify your most deeply held personal values and learn how your values overlap (or do not overlap) with others. Begin to critically examine the idea of values (e.g. Are some values “higher order” than others) and how they can inspire and motivate both you and other people.
- Myers Briggs Type Inventory: Understanding Preferences (MBTI Assessment Instrument) (1.5 to 2 hours)
- Discover how your preferences and psychological type affect who you are and how you work with others. Learn about psychological types and how teams can be more successful through an understanding of similarities and differences in cognition, communication and motivation.
- Note: We do not charge Mason participants for this workshop, but the MBTI costs $18.50 per person (please confirm with us after requesting this workshop to make sure the cost has not changed).
