The Graduate Professional Assistant (GPA) will be a vital member of our team, playing a key role in developing and delivering leadership training, resources, services, and recognition programs that empower Mason students to become effective, ethical leaders. This position offers hands-on experience in program coordination, implementation, and evaluation, ensuring impactful and engaging leadership development opportunities.
In this role, the GPA will co-supervise the Student Leadership Consultants alongside another GPA, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. Additionally, they will design and facilitate leadership workshops, equipping students with the skills needed to lead with confidence and integrity. A core focus of this position will also be civic engagement and service outreach, including building and strengthening relationships with community partners to create meaningful opportunities for student involvement.

Position Posting: Graduate Professional Assistant: Intercultural Engagement
- The GPA for Intercultural Engagement position is a 12-month position (May 2025 to May 2026).
- There are three (3) open positions to meet the needs of the following services we offer: Programming and Advising, Marketing and Communication, and Workshop and Education.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in one of George Mason University’s Graduate Programs (not provisional admission).
- Must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
- Must be in good academic and judicial standing.
- Must be available for the Summer 2025 term and entire 2025-2026 Academic Year (this is a 12-month position).
- Must be able to work 20 hours per week.
- Work hours are to be completed in-person in the Center for Leadership and Intercultural Engagement on the Fairfax Campus.
- Must participate in the Graduate Staff Academy through University Life as class schedule allows. This includes approximately 10 to 14 sessions spread throughout the academic year which are about 2 hours long each.

The Graduate Professional Assistant (GPAA) will be a key player in our team, driving initiatives that empower George Mason students to develop into effective, ethical leaders. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Center for Leadership and Intercultural Engagement to provide leadership training, resources, services, and recognition for all Mason students.
As a GPA, you will coordinate and implement major center programming, ensuring impactful experiences for students. You will co-supervise the Student Leadership Consultants alongside the Associate Director, fostering a culture of leadership development and teamwork. Additionally, you will serve as a teaching assistant for the Ethics and Leadership (INTS 404) course, supporting students in their academic and leadership growth. Through facilitating dynamic leadership workshops, you will help students build essential skills to thrive both personally and professionally.

University Life: Process and Timeline for 2025-2026 Academic Year
- Assistantships are available at the Masters and Doctoral levels and are compensated according to the unit’s established rates for the contracted responsibilities. Position responsibilities, time commitment, and compensation will vary by department and position.
- All assistantships comply with graduate student hiring rules and regulations are outlined by the Graduate Division in the Graduate Division Hiring Rules & Procedures.
- Students must be enrolled full-time in a graduate program in order to be eligible for assistantships.
- Applications are submitted to the University Life department/hiring manager and/or HandShake as indicated on the position posting.
- University Life hiring managers may request virtual or phone interviews. Decisions to offer assistantships are at the discretion of the respective hiring manager for each position.
- The majority of University Life Graduate Professional Assistant positions will be posted by late mid-late March 2025.
- For 2025-2026 academic year, most hiring decisions will take place between March and May 2025.
