Engage directly with women leaders impacting fields like religion, agriculture, entrepreneurship, Indigenous advocacy, and cultural preservation. Explore how leadership is developed, challenged, and reimagined in Tokyo, Kyoto, & Fukuoka, visiting:
- Maid cafés
- Kabuki performance
- Kyoto’s Gion district
- Ainu cultural centers
- Nun-run cafés
- Women-led farms
- Former coal mining communities
Scholarships
Application for “Increasing Access: Japan Program Scholarships” now available! These need-based scholarships are specifically for this program, are for George Mason University students, and will be approximately $1,000 to $4,000 per student. These scholarships are intended to ease financial burdens for Mason students who may have thought that studying abroad was not possible for them. The main goal of these scholarships is to eliminate, or drastically reduce, financial barriers to participation in the program. For best consideration, submit your “Increasing Access: Japan Program Scholarships” application by Monday, December 1, 2025.
